Wheat Ridge, Colorado is an established suburban city west of Denver dating back to the 1850s. It was originally a rest stop for miners during the 1859 Gold Rush. The name Wheat Ridge refers to the golden ridges of wheat pioneers saw as they traveled the Overland Trail. Unsuccessful miners settled in the area and started Wheat Ridge’s farming traditions. Today Wheat Ridge boasts a small town feel with a family-friendly atmosphere. The city has over 20 established parks and hundreds of acres of open space. With it’s small-town charm and easy access to Denver and the mountains, Wheat Ridge has a lot to offer.

Wheat Ridge Greenbelt & Clear Creek Trail

The Greenbelt is a 300 acre open space area running through Wheat Ridge featuring lakes, wetlands and wildlife habitats. The Clear Creek Trail, which passes through the Greenbelt, provides opportunities for biking, hiking and bird-watching.

Crown Hill Park & Lake

Crown Hill Park is a large nature area with open space, trails and a lake. Walking trails surround the lake, and the wetlands offer opportunities for both fishing and wildlife viewing.

Wheat Ridge Historical Park

The Wheat Ridge Historical Park offers a look back at early pioneer life. Part of the original 1859 homestead, the Park features the Sod House built from prairie grass and sod. Other historic buildings include a log cabin, post office and farmhouse (Braugh House).
